The first shipment of modular manufacturing units for AstraZeneca's Singapore expansion has left China, with Pharmadule Morimatsu completing fabrication of the antibody drug conjugate (ADC) conjugation building modules in less than six months.
A shipment ceremony for the AstraZeneca Singapore Operations modular project took place on October 28th at the company's Suzhou manufacturing site, formally closing the fabrication stage and opening the on-site construction phase.
Modules Head to Tuas South Facility
The modular units are bound for AstraZeneca's Tuas South manufacturing site in Singapore. Morimatsu LifeSciences, which announced the ceremony, said the shipment officially launched the transfer of the modules and transitioned the project from manufacturing to on-site construction.
Attending the ceremony were Paul Si, Project Director of AstraZeneca; Weihua Tang, CEO of Morimatsu LifeSciences; and Daoquan Li, CEO of Morimatsu Pharmadule (China).
Phased Delivery Plan Tied to Lifting Schedule
A key feature of the delivery was a carefully planned phased shipping strategy, with module arrivals aligned precisely to the site's lifting and installation schedule. According to Morimatsu LifeSciences, this approach was designed to keep onsite execution smooth and uninterrupted.
The strategy also addressed transportation constraints linked to large-scale modules while capturing the full benefits of offsite fabrication. The company said the result was a significant reduction in onsite construction activities alongside improved project efficiency, quality control, and delivery certainty.
Contract Scope and Execution Standards
Pharmadule Morimatsu was responsible for the design and construction of the ADC conjugation building, described as a core component of the AstraZeneca Singapore Operations facility.
Its scope covered engineering, procurement, manufacturing, commissioning, and international logistics, all coordinated by the company. Morimatsu LifeSciences said the team worked in close collaboration with AstraZeneca under an efficient project governance framework enabling seamless cross-functional and cross-regional teamwork.
Execution followed AstraZeneca's global engineering and quality standards, supported by a mature project management system and extensive international project delivery experience. The company attributed its handling of the project's critical phases to Pharmadule Morimatsu's expertise in modular engineering.
Obstacles the Team Had to Navigate
The project presented multiple challenges, according to Morimatsu LifeSciences.
These included the large scale of the project, a tight schedule, stringent quality requirements, high expectations for modular integration, complex international stakeholder coordination, and demanding logistics constraints.
The company said its project management system and delivery track record allowed the team to work through these difficulties while meeting the milestone.
Fast Timeline From Fabrication to FAT
From the commencement of module fabrication through completion of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), the project reached the shipment milestone in under six months.
Morimatsu LifeSciences characterized the achievement as evidence of Pharmadule Morimatsu's comprehensive execution capabilities on large-scale international biopharmaceutical projects, and said it provides a solid foundation for the subsequent site construction phase and the rapid realization of future production capacity.
Company Leadership Comments on Partnership
Daoquan Li, CEO of Morimatsu Pharmadule (China), described the project as an important achievement in the deepening partnership between the two companies and another benchmark project demonstrating Pharmadule Morimatsu's commitment to serving the global biopharmaceutical industry.
"The successful progress of the project reflects the trust, collaboration, and dedication shared by both teams," Li stated, adding that together with AstraZeneca the company is advancing the development of world-class biopharmaceutical manufacturing capacity and supporting the research, development, and production of innovative medicines.
Morimatsu LifeSciences framed the delivery as more than the transportation of modular production facilities, calling it a reflection of the shared commitment of AstraZeneca and Pharmadule Morimatsu to innovation, quality, and collaboration, and of a common mission to improve patient health.
The company said it will continue to connect global innovation through its engineering expertise and help accelerate the transformation of biopharmaceutical breakthroughs into therapies that improve and protect lives worldwide.
