From a 6.5-acre campus in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Inc. USA now coordinates every prescription and over-the-counter medicine it ships across the United States.
The company has inaugurated its Allentown distribution center, a roughly 160,000-square-foot operation that serves as Glenmark's largest distribution facility in North America and its only U.S. distribution hub.
Facility ships 61 million units across 43 US states
Since beginning operations, the site has shipped more than 61 million units to 321 locations in 43 states. A workforce of 45 employees handles operations, quality, and administration at the center.
The opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and facility tours attended by Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk, Pennsylvania State Senator Jarrett Coleman, and Pennsylvania State Representative Ana Tiburcio, along with representatives from the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation, the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Board Lehigh Valley, Lehigh County, and Upper Macungie Township.
Storage Built for Regulated Pharmaceuticals
The facility operates in accordance with applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Drug Enforcement Administration requirements. Its capabilities include controlled-room-temperature storage, refrigerated cold-chain storage, and DEA-compliant cage and vault storage. Daily operations also emphasize safety and sustainability.
Employees follow established procedures for emergency response, evacuation, shelter-in-place, and medical emergencies. The site incorporates energy-efficiency measures, waste reduction, recycling, and smarter packaging alongside optimized delivery routes.
Why Glenmark Picked Pennsylvania
Marc Kikuchi, President and Business Head, North America, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, said the company has served U.S. patients for more than two decades and continues to invest in the people and capabilities that enable it to serve patients, customers, and partners across the country.
He described the Allentown distribution center as an important part of Glenmark's growing U.S. platform, which spans innovation, manufacturing, and distribution.
Kikuchi said the company chose the Lehigh Valley for its exceptional workforce, strong community, and proximity to customers and the U.S. headquarters, adding that Glenmark is proud to operate a central distribution hub that keeps its medicines moving to patients nationwide from the region.
Officials Point to Jobs and Supply-Chain Strength
Congressman Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA-07) called Glenmark's investment the latest reminder that the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos are at the forefront of American manufacturing and innovation.
He said the new facility will help create jobs, strengthen the local economy, and expand America's domestic pharmaceutical supply chain, and that such investments are important to ensuring Americans have reliable access to the medications they need.
Mayor Tuerk said the investment strengthens the entire Lehigh Valley region and that Allentown is proud to be part of that regional economy. He noted that projects like this create opportunities for residents to access well-paying jobs, build careers, and contribute to the region's continued growth and success.
A Nearly USD 1 Billion U.S. Commitment
The Allentown center is the latest in a series of Glenmark investments that aim to strengthen the American pharmaceutical supply chain.
The company employs close to 400 people nationwide and has invested nearly USD 1 billion in its U.S. research and manufacturing capabilities, including nearly USD 400 million in its FDA-approved manufacturing facility in Monroe, North Carolina.
Glenmark's portfolio of 229 FDA-authorized products supports approximately 90 million U.S. prescriptions annually.
How Allentown Fits Glenmark's Wider Network
The distribution center joins Glenmark's U.S. headquarters in Elmwood Park, New Jersey; its manufacturing facility in Monroe, North Carolina; and Ichnos Glenmark Innovation (IGI), the company's wholly owned biotechnology subsidiary in New York. Together, these operations form a connected U.S. platform spanning corporate operations, manufacturing, innovation, and distribution.
