Terrestrial Bio Launches 40,000-Square-Foot Tacterra Microarray Patch Manufacturing Facility in Massachusetts, US

Terrestrial Bio, Inc., marked the launch of its new headquarters and manufacturing site in Allston, Massachusetts, with a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 28, 2026, attended by employees, government officials, investors, and public and private partners.

The company formally announced the opening of the facility at 250 Western Avenue on October 30, 2026.

Massachusetts Officials Support Terrestrial's Facility Expansion

Cutting the ribbon alongside CEO Rachel Sha were Massachusetts Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley and Elizabeth Graham of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC), signaling the state's backing of the biotech's growing footprint in the Commonwealth.

Grant Backing Totals More Than USD 2.2 Million

The manufacturing build-out has been underwritten in part by two Massachusetts state grants, adding up to more than USD 2.2 million. The larger of the two is a USD 1.4 million BioBoost Award from the MLSC directed toward commercial-scale facility development.

The second is a USD 850,000 award issued through the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative (M2I2), which is administered by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative's Center for Advanced Manufacturing.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary Paley praised the company's approach, saying Massachusetts is "the most curious place on earth" and that questions like "How do we make it the easiest possible way to access these medicines?" matter alongside questions about which medicines help people thrive. "We think that kind of curiosity in what Terrestrial has done here can ultimately change the world," he said, adding that the state is "here to support you in any way we can."

Graham, the MLSC's Interim President and CEO, called the occasion a "tremendous partnership" and said, "Terrestrial is really what makes the Commonwealth such an amazing place to be."

Production Aimed at GLP-1 Lead Program VX-201

Housed at Allston Labworks, the site covers more than 40,000 square feet and is built to support production of Terrestrial's Tacterra™ microarray patches for clinical trials, along with demonstration of commercial-scale production for the company's lead program, VX-201, which delivers GLP-1.

Automation, robotics, machine vision, and advanced analytics are integrated throughout the facility to help scale manufacturing and tighten quality control as therapeutic programs progress.

CEO Rachel Sha framed the company's mission around those who use its products.

"Imagine a future where you can stay healthy, feel and look the way you want, and live the life that you hope to live, with less daily struggle to access and afford transformative medication," she said. "At Terrestrial, we're grounded in the patient experience. We're focused on developing products that help improve patient lives… We are so excited to be here in our new headquarters, which will help us realize this future sooner."

The move deepens the company's roots in Massachusetts and, through its investment in advanced manufacturing at the headquarters site, establishes groundwork for a lasting Boston manufacturing presence that creates high-quality jobs.

Opening Caps a Year That Brought USD 50 Million Raise and First Trial Dosing

The facility launch lands on the heels of several milestones for Terrestrial during 2026. In March, the company announced a USD 50 million Series C financing.

Come July, Terrestrial disclosed that the first participants had been dosed in a Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating VX-201, its investigational Tacterra™ microarray patch for delivery of semaglutide.

How the Tacterra Patch Platform Works

Terrestrial is focused on transforming how next-generation therapies are delivered, beginning with GLP-1. Its proprietary Tacterra™ microarray patch (MAP) and applicator platform take the form of a patch that resembles an adhesive bandage.

A preloaded applicator applies the patch, which is removed after just a few minutes. Once in place, the patch delivers bioactive tips into the skin, where they dissolve quickly into the body and rapidly release their therapeutic payload.

The temperature-stable platform is designed for self-administration and enables precise, controlled delivery of a broad range of therapeutics without the need for medical sharps or refrigeration. Terrestrial reports strong clinical and in vivo proof of concept across multiple molecules.

The company is headquartered at 250 Western Avenue in Allston, with additional facilities at 30 Cummings Park Dr. and 11 Cummings Park Dr. in Woburn, MA.
